Hi guys! Today I'll be sharing all about THE FACE SHOP's Yehwadam Hwansaenggo Ultimate Rejuvenating Line. First of all, what is Yehwadam? Yehwadam is THE FACE SHOP's anti-ageing line and the name is actually an acronym consisting of 3 words that represent the philosophy of the line YE 蘂 herbs and plants HWA 花 flower DAM 譚 story. In oriental medicine, they believe that ageing starts at 35, and that by 42, we will experience accelerated facial ageing, hair loss and gray hair. According to ancient traditional medicine records, this is due to loss of our "Heavenly Qi". I mentioned "Qi" before in my review of THE FACE SHOP's Yehwadam First Serum. If you're not familiar with qi, it's a term in traditional medicine that is also known as "vital energy". I got all 5 products from this line, and after trying them out, I'm here to share my thoughts with you guys. THE FACE SHOP Yehwadam Hwansaenggo Ultimate Rejuvenating Toner Gold-toned and filled with nutrients, this ultra-nourishing toner creates a healthy oil-and-water balance on the skin. It helps to create a protective film on the skin with Lecithin and Bio-polymers, while Hyaluronic Acid and Panthenol help to provide and retain moisture. The scent is quite fresh and nice thanks to the Ginseng leaves and flowers. As for the texture, it has a bit of viscosity to it and it does feel quite hydrating to the touch. I wouldn't use this for exfoliating as I think it's a slightly too thick. It's more of a pampering, gooey toner similar to Pyunkangyul. The finish is fresh and it leaves the skin feeling nice and plump, though it does leave a slight sheen on the face. I used some of the products from this range exclusively at night as I found that the textures of the products were too rich for morning use, especially in Malaysia, and this was one of my night exclusives. THE FACE SHOP Yehwadam Hwansaenggo Ultimate Rejuvenating Serum This ultra-concentrated, golden serum glides on like silk, delivering intense moisture and anti-ageing benefits to the skin. The Ceramides and Phosphatides inside it provide a firming effect, while the naturally-derived Polysaccharides plump the skin from within. This serum has a creamy texture, thicker compared to Belif's Youth Bomb, and it's another night exclusive product or me. I didn't feel any immediate firming effects after using it, although I did think that my skin felt quite smooth. I would not recommend this to those starting out with anti-ageing products as I would recommend you start with lighter textures, but I do think that those with more mature skin or dry skin will enjoy this. THE FACE SHOP Yehwadam Hwansaenggo Ultimate Rejuvenating Emulsion An ultra-nourishing, fast-absorbing and silky soft emulsion formulated with nourishing Olive and brightening gold pearls, this emulsion restores balance to the skin. The Panthenol and Nutmeg inside it deliver and lock moisture while preventing inflammation. This is a product I used both day and night. In the day, I used it as the texture was more lightweight compared to the cream. At night, I used it to give my skin extra nourishment. I do not always use this at night as I think the cream is rich enough, but when I do feel a little more extra, I pat a bit on before the cream. I would highly recommend this to those looking to up their skincare game, especially those with oily skin like me! I think the texture works great for Malaysia's weather, and it can be used both day and night. THE FACE SHOP Yehwadam Hwansaenggo Ultimate Rejuvenating Cream Rich and balm-like, this cream contains Ceramides to minimize the appearance of deep wrinkles. It also uses an Elastic Emulsifying Technology that acts like an invisible rubber band, visibly lifting facial contours. The ginseng scent in this product is masked a bit by floral fragrances, which I have to admit made the product seem a bit "old" for me haha. I have no problems with fragrances as long as they're not too overwhelming, and although this product is a bit more on the noticeable side when it comes to scents, it does dissipate after a while. It comes with a spatula for hygienic scooping, and the spatula comes with a ball on the end if you need a tool to help you massage your face. I recommend massaging upwards, draining all those baddies down to your neck. The cream is pretty rich, and I find myself using only very little. If you're someone with dry or mature skin, I think you'll love this immediately as the rich moisture is immediate. As for us oily, acne-prone skin types, it works great as well if you control the amount used. I was afraid that using too much might clog my pores, but it didn't. It only made my face feel quite thick and heavy. Using this alone, it does have a richness and a firmness to it. I would not recommend using this every day if you're my age, but it would be great to incorporate it into your routine 2-3 times a week, just to maintain your skin's youth + give it all the anti-ageing goodness. You may increase usage if you'd like, but personally, twice a week would be my limit for this cream as I like to play around with my products. THE FACE SHOP Yehwadam Hwansaenggo Ultimate Rejuvenating Eye Cream A balm-type eye cream that aims to reduce fine lines, dark circles and puffiness. It features a mild formula that is gentle on the eye contours. It is also free from any harmful preservatives, making it perfect for the delicate eye area. I used sometimes in the morning as well, but I used it more at night. I think it's quite nice and not too thick, making it perfect for the delicate eye area. Similar to the cream, it comes with its own spatula/massager. I use this every night, and only some mornings. For the mornings, I think it can be quite rich but not rich enough that it's uncomfortable. I still use it from time to time in the day as my eye area does feel very nourished, but I think it does more for me at night. I've been waking up with more rested eyes, and I did notice that my dark circles seem less visible! Overall, this line is great if you're looking to upgrade your skincare routine and if you want to incorporate richer, more potent products into your skincare routine. If you're just starting out with anti-ageing products, start with something lighter and work your way up. As for effects, I have seen short term ones like on my undereye area. Other notable effects are the nourished, moisturized skin I have when I wake up. As I don't have any major wrinkles yet, this range has mostly helped me maintain my youth and complexion. I cannot attest to its wrinkle helping benefits, but I can say that for me, I do feel like it nourishes and firms my skin effectively enough that I think it'll help me stay wrinkle-free longer. • And that's all for this review! All opinions are my own Give an Asian a piece of ginseng, and they will likely squirrel it away to boil a bowl of nourishing herbal soup. No Asian worth their salt will turn down good ginseng, a root known to boost blood circulation and energy levels; and that is also true when that ginseng is found in skincare. So, when THE FACE SHOP asked if I might want to try their newly updated Yehwadam Heaven Grade Ginseng Rejuvenating range of skincare, I couldn’t say no. Hello! Ginseng! 😀 I’d been using these, trying to get a feel of them, for slightly over a month, so I have formed quite a firm view on them. If you’re curious to know what I think, here we go! 🙂 The Face Shop Yehwadam Heaven Grade Ginseng Rejuvenating Range THE FACE SHOP Yehwadam Heaven Grade Ginseng range is so named due to the type of ginseng used – the highest quality ginseng aged for 6 years. The name “Yehwadam” itself, is a combination of three elements – Ye herbs and plants, Hwa flowers and Dam story. If you’re curious, it’s apparently pronounced “yeah-whoa-dum” thanks to someone from Instagram who shared it with me! 😀 The Yehwadam range is what is commonly referred to as the “anti-aging” range, and is targeted at those 35 and above. I can understand why, because the textures of the products are noticeably heavier and are more suitable for those with a drier skin type. That is of course, not to say that you can’t use it if you’re younger. If you have oily skin then the textures of some of the products may not feel as comfortable. They aren’t sticky or greasy, just noticeably heavier on skin. The upgraded and improved Yehwadam Heaven Grade Ginseng Rejuventaing range also contains canola, peony, gold dust, safflower seed oil, Lotus flower extract and double the concentration of the key ingredients, Heaven Grade Ginseng and Natural Pine Mushroom. One thing I have to note right at the start is this – the packaging is stunning! The elegant bottles are weighty frosted glass or plastic, the plastic caps and pumps are sturdy and solid, and it feels very luxurious! This will look welcome on any dresser! The Face Shop Heaven Grade Ginseng Rejuvenating Toner – for 155ml This one is more of an essence than a toner, if you ask me. For those with drier skin that this range targets this toner will feel more comfortable. On oily skins, it may feel heavy. It does absorb quite easily, and I’d just use my hands to apply so I don’t waste all that lovely lotion on a cotton pad. Just squirt one pump in the palm of your hand, warm it up, and apply to skin. I do find that if I apply it to damp skin after misting, it seems to make my skin feel a little more plumped. I like the liquid texture and how quickly and easily it absorbs, and how my skin feels immediately after – comfortable and hydrated. But there’s one thing that bugs me, and that’s the scent. I was expecting a herbal, earthy scent akin to that of ginseng. I love the smell of herbs so that would have sat well with me. However, this range is perfumed and I personally find the scent of flowers too strong. That said, scent is a very personal thing, so I will suggest that you test it yourself and see how well it sits with you. Not that I’m complaining, because I enjoy creamy textures like this. But this once again underlines the fact that this range is better suited for someone with drier skin. I use 1 pump, which is about the right amount, warmed up and then smoothed over my skin. It is creamy, but sinks in very nicely into the skin, so there is no sticky feeling. In fact, it feels almost silky, which isn’t surprising, as it contains silicones. To be honest, because I already take good care of my skin, I cannot tell you if I saw any dramatic results using this serum. It was alright, but if I’m to be honest, it’s not my favourite because of the texture I generally shy away from products that contain too much silicone and the ever-present fragrance that I feel seems stronger in this one than the rest. I think it’s useful to be able to see because the textures of each product is quite different! The Face Shop Heaven Grade Ginseng Rejuvenating Emulsion – for 140ml This would be the moisturiser for most people. The texture, as you can see from the picture above is that of a light lotion. It is very light, and almost seems to sink right into the skin. For me, that is almost quite literal. The first few days, I applied this over the Revitalizing Toner and the Rejuvenating Serum. But I soon realised that it was not moisturising enough for me. I noticed that there is a Revitalizing Cream in the range, and I have a feeling that might suit me better. However, if you feel that the Rejuvenating Serum is a little heavy, and don’t want anything heavier on top of it, then this emulsion might do the trick. I do like it in terms of its milky texture, and how it feels going on the skin. It just isn’t enough for me, which is no fault of the product. First, I just have to gawk at the size of the tub! 25ml for an eye cream is no joke! Usually, we’d be lucky to get 15ml. Funny story The first day I started using this Yehwadam Heaven Grade Ginseng Rejuvenating range, I didn’t really pay attention to the boxes. I mean, what don’t I know about how to use skincare right?So I happily slapped on the Rejuvenating Toner, and then the Rejuvenating Serum and then the Emulsion. Next, I opened up this GIGANTIC tub of cream, oohed and ahhed at the lovely creamy texture that looks almost like a balm….. and then applied it all over my face!I did this for 2 days running before I decided to see what lovely cream this was. That’s when I realised that this was an EYE CREAM! The horror! LOL! 😀 Nothing untoward happened, and if anything, I swear that this makes for a very lovely face cream! 😀 The texture is thicker than most eye creams I’m used to, with an almost balmy feel. Yet, when you warm it up, it becomes very light, and it is so easy to apply it around your eye area. It absorbs nicely and keeps the eye area hydrated, which is what a good eye cream should do. I had absolutely no problems with this one, although if you have oily lids then you might want to stay away to avoid potential clogging. Otherwise, this is very lovely, nourishing and comfortable. I cannot say that I noticed anything dramatic happening around my eye area I don’t have very deep wrinkles around my eyes – I know, lucky me!. That said, considering that I am the laziest person around when it comes to using eye cream, I found myself reaching for this tub often. Perhaps it’s the novelty of using such a huge tub of cream it’ll last you ages! You only need very little each time or perhaps I just like that balmy-almost-oil texture. Either day, this was my favourite product out of the range! and the best value for money, in my view! A note about fragrance, because I have been banging on about it, it is similarly fragranced, which I’d much rather it wasn’t. But because you use very little, the fragrance is less noticeable than in the other face products. If smoothing winkles and lines are your concern, I’d say it’ll take a while for you to notice a difference. As I said, I already care for my skin, and I am not genetically pre-disposed to have a lot of lines. So, it was hard for me to measure this. I can therefore only tell you about the texture and how I feel using it. I personally find the fragrance a little strong, and too floral for my tastes. If it had smelled more of herbs and ginseng, I’d be more comfortable. But that is how my nose is wired – I don’t even like floral type perfumes, so it’s not unusual that the scent did not sit too well with me. My personal pick would be the Rejuvenating Eye Cream. It is great value for money because it’s such a huge tub of cream, and I love the balmy texture on skin. The Rejuvenating Toner is alright, if you’re in the market for a heavier lotion, more like an essence. I was not too much a fan of the texture of the Rejuvenating Serum, but I’m told that is a bestseller product, and that tells me it must be effective! The Rejuvenating Emulsion would be good for a day moisturiser, if you have combination type skin. I have dry skin and I did not feel it to be sufficient, even layered over the Toner and Serum.
